Ugh… I lost my teeth again.
I’m on the last few weeks of my teeth aligners, and just yesterday after lunch I spent a half hour looking high and low for one of my aligner trays.
In our house we call it “looking for her teeth.”
It’s not uncommon for me to forget where I put them. Sometimes I’m smart and I put them next to my toothbrush because I have to brush every time I eat.
Sometimes they go into their case and the case disappears into the ether.
And sometimes... I’m just grabbing a quick snack and then look down at my hand and they’re gone. *POOF* They’ve vanished like a fart in the wind.
Usually it takes a loop or two around the kitchen/office/bathroom but they turn up.
Yesterday was different. I looked down and only had one of the two trays in my hand.
I patted my pants pockets, not there.
I checked all the countertops and desk tops. Not on my napkin, not on my plate. Not by my sink.
Shook out the blanket I keep on my lap because it’s -15 degrees outside. Nada.
I traced my steps over and over, completely distracted from the work that I needed to get done. A half hour later, and wearing only the bottom tray (which feels really weird), I sat back down at my desk and tried to get back to work.
It didn’t go well.
All this to say… how much of your time working in your business is spent reacting to things that pop up?
Yesterday turned into an entire day of REACTING to other people’s requests and needs. When I’m distracted it’s so hard to get back on task and be proactive on ANYTHING.
And each time I get off track I feel my business moving farther and farther away from what I wanted to intentionally build.
Which is ironic, since everything I help my clients with is all about keeping an eye on the horizon in order to intentionally design your business.
But what helps me most is having my central touch points:
Knowing what I want for my clients & future clients
Knowing if I need to concentrate on GROWTH or PROFIT actions
Keeping my tight boundaries and stepping away from my computer by 5:00 PM
And it works like magic. It’s like restarting my computer - shutting down all 80 tabs of my browser, installing updates, and refocusing on the most important and impactful work.
FYI:They eventually turned up, on the floor behind my office door.
